18 Wheels of Justice HQ – 02.08.12 16:34. We have had the good fortune of stumbling upon an outstanding tanker carrier this morning. K2 Tank Lines is looking for experienced owner operators. K-2 offers one of the best pay packages in the industry.
A little background on K-2…
K2 Tank Lines was formed through the admirable efforts of professionals looking to better serve the fossil and alternative fuels industry.
Driven by a continued focus on offering the best value for K2’s customers and the success of their Independent Contractor Partners, K-2 affords our customers the ability to partner with a responsible, competitive, forward acting transportation company.
K2's commitment to these principles of operation, complimented by in-depth independent contractor health, ongoing overall safety, hazmat and environmental training, as well as DOT compliance practices, puts K2 in the forefront of the bulk commodities transportation industry.
18 Wheels of Justice is happy to have Mr. Mike Kaspar here to answer a few questions about K2 Tank Lines...
Mr. Kaspar, what is your background and why did you decide to come to work for K2?
I spent many years in the real estate and construction business and at one point my brother, Pete, came to me with the thought of opening our own trucking company. Pete had been managing an all owner operator firm for nearly twenty two years, which had hauled alternative fuels, fossil fuels and various bulk liquid commodities. Pete, as an owner operator, felt that there was a better way to serve the industry, a better way to operate a trucking business and he wanted to afford owner operators a better opportunity. Pete is our lead owner operator here at K2. He is well known and well respected in the industry. What is one of the biggest advantages of signing on to K2 for an owner operator?
K2 offers owner operators a greater percentage of the freight charges and pays 100% of the fuel surcharges to the owner operators through a detailed weekly settlement; we offer a fuel card, Pre-Pass, toll cards, maintenance and repair accounts; true lease purchases for tractors, both new and used; best of all some of the highest utilization rates in the industry. Our owner operators are expected to operate in accordance with K2's safety and operational practices, some of the most progressive in the industry.
How much tanker experience does K2 require and do you offer tanker training? K2 requires two years of verifiable tanker experience. K2 does have a tanker training program whereby successful owner operators without tanker experience can contract for K2 and develop the needed experience to overcome this two year requirement. K2 has successfully developed new owner operators through this program as well as given experienced owner operators the opportunity to move from van and flatbed work to bulk liquid commodities.
What are your hiring areas?
K2 is actively seeking owner operators for the entire Midwest region. K2 has terminals in Channahon, Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana. In some cases, depending upon safety and security, owner operators may operate from their own home base.
How often can contractors expect to get home? Most of our contractors are home every week. We follow the DOT Hours of Service regulations strictly. Our dispatchers want our owner operators to enjoy contracting with K2 so they work hard to accommodate individual requests. You're not a number here.
Thank you for taking the time to join us today; it’s been a pleasure learning about K2 Tank Lines!
